Policy & Strategy
Developing long-term strategies to enable change across the rail industry
Our Policy & Strategy team works with the Department for Transport (DfT), supporting rail reform activity. This includes embedding simpler ways of working and supporting initiatives such as sector design, benefits and outcomes analysis, and pre-legislative scrutiny.
We are helping lay the groundwork for Great British Railways (GBR) to deliver greater integration and increased decision-making efficiency. By improving ways of working across the industry, organisations are able to focus on delivering the most impactful benefits today, as well as in the longer term.
Long term strategy for rail
Our Strategy team is building on the work done since the Call for Evidence report for the Long Term Strategy for Rail (formerly known as the Whole Industry Strategic Plan) was published.
We are developing insight and analytical tools to reveal the impact of strategic choices in areas like rolling stock, freight, train performance and traction decarbonisation, and what these can do to support the key national ambitions outlined in the strategic objectives that have been set for the rail industry. This strategic insight and analysis will support effective and joined-up decisions, in line with Government objectives.
