Services that are easier to access and use
Around 22% of the UK population lives with a disability. Due to the lack of appropriate public transport options, one in five disabled people reported that they are unable to travel.
We are listening to our customers with diverse accessibility needs and working alongside charities and user groups to remove the barriers that make travelling by rail difficult today. We are working with industry partners to make system wide changes as soon as possible so our customers have services that are easier to access and use.
We are working on a strategy to improve accessibility across the UK rail network. We will be listening to our customers to understand their views and challenges with accessing the UK rail network by running a national consultation to inform our work going forward.
Our team has undertaken an accessibility review of all stations across the country to look at the barriers customers face with facilities across our network. This information will better equip customers as they make their modal choices and provide information to better equip decision makers and improve overall accessibility of rail.
As well as creating more revenue, improving accessibility will create more positive experiences for people travelling with luggage, bicycles, prams and buggies, young children, and others with mobility issues.
We are designing services for the many and not the few, making rail more inclusive and accessible for everyone in Great Britain.
